Midland City, AL - Nearly four months after a hostage standoff in Dale County, we're finally getting a look inside the underground bunker.
The FBI just released photos taken inside the bunker in Midland City where Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, held 5-year-old Ethan hostage for 7 days.
Dykes stormed a Dale County School Bus on January 29 and told the driver, Charles Poland he wasn’t leaving without a child.
Poland refused and tried to protect the kids. Dykes shot and killed him. That’s when police say he snatched Ethan and took him to the underground bunker on his property.
The bunker measured about 8 by 6 feet and was buried 12 feet underground. It’s not much bigger than a parking space.
Also, there’s a picture from the command center that was staged inside a nearby church. You can see the army of law enforcement officers that worked for about a week to rescue Ethan.
The FBI also released audio recordings of the 9-1-1 call when Dykes first stormed the bus, as well as phone calls between Dykes and negotiators.
In the end, the FBI stormed the bunker and shot Dykes. Ethan was unharmed.
